My son, the Bat Boy
July 4, 2008
My son is so blessed! I took him to a Sacramento Rivercats baseball game this past Monday. (His loving sister gave him 2 tickets that she won from a raffle at the Davis Public Library.) As we were entering the stadium, a lady asked him if he would like to be the honorary bat boy for the game! He got a free cap, ball, shirt, a grand tour of the stadium, and got to announce the official start of the game with, “Let’s play ball!“ He was in heaven, and being a baseball fan myself, I was on cloud 8.5.
I’m always wanting to build courage in this little boy, so I quickly signed their waiver form and gave him some pointers on public speaking! Stand tall, hold the mic firmly, articulate, enunciate, and smile! Take a look at this young lad, addressing thousands of people in the stadium:
At the beginning of the game, I gave him $20 spending money to last the entire night — for food, souvenirs, or even college tuition. By the 3rd inning, he spent half of his funds buying cotton candy (a baseball game tradition for him) and a super large lemonade (he’s a thirsty boy). That left him $10 for souvenirs at the end of the game and wanted to get his sister a gift to thank her for the tickets. (What a good brother!) But when he got to the store, he selected a souvenir bat and some baseball cards…for himself! What a bat boy! I gotta train him to be a good boy next week…

What a good job, Taylor!
That is one of God’s special blessings !
I wish I could scream louder and louder so the whole world can hear “My grandson Taylor is the Honorary Bat Boy!”
Thank you for making the video so we can see and hear Taylor’s announcement, “Let’s play ball!”

Hi Mom,
Taylor had a wonderful time. He really likes baseball these days…almost as much as I liked the LA Dodgers when I was in the 4th grade.
