Gracepoint Fellowship Church Austin!

October 8, 2008

Pioneering spirit: Gracepoint Fellowship Church – Austin, Texas! This past Sunday, I got to participate in the long-awaited inaugural service for our new church plant in longhorn country, Austin, Texas! This city is crazy about longhorns, which are basically cows with long horns, and they have statues of them all around the city. I guess if our UC Davis football team wins the Rose Bowl, I wouldn’t mind having a big cow in my front lawn either! :)

Gracepoint Inaugural Service x 2!

Double-take: Gracepoint Inaugural Service x 2!

Over 50 of us from Gracepoint Fellowship Berkeley and Waypoint Community Church flew out to be a part of this historic event to be remembered that’s sure to be not too far behind the Alamo! The inaugural was advertised in the school newspaper and I had to do a double-take, because as you can see on the left, it showed up twice! (No, John didn’t use a 2-for-1coupon!)

Pastor Ed Kang gave a message on Romans 16 which contains a lot of hard-to-pronounce names, but each who worked very hard for the gospel. I was praying that the Austin team (now totaling 15) with UT Austin students in attendance (around 40 for the inaugural) will generate their own Romans 16 in the years to come.

I couldn’t help but reflect back on the start of our ministry in Davis (another fragrant cow town): I remembered the small mustard seed of a church plant that began some 11 years ago and the excitement of the inaugural service. I remembered the anxious excitement that I felt as we prepared for Bible studies and events where we wondered if anyone would show up. I remembered the ways God led us faithfully one day at a time, one message at a time, one student at a time, one step of faith at a time… I remembered Jesus who led us all the way to this point where we can help plant a church out here in Austin, Texas. And what a thrilling ride of a lifetime it has been!

Please join with me in praying for the Austin team as they embark on this exciting ride!
